New Specification and Biofertiliser Scheme to Boost Digestate Market

The Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (BCS), launched on the 23rd February, aims to boost the market for digestate by providing a rigorous standard that proves digestate is safe to spread on the land.  AD plant operators in England and Wales can apply for certification against a specification known as the PAS110.  The BCS provides assurance to consumers, farmers, food producers and retailers that biofertiliser is safe and of good quality.

The PAS110 specification can now be downloaded from www.wrap.org.uk/ad.

The PAS110 specification was sponsored by WRAP and Renewables East. It has been developed in conjunction with the Renewable Energy Association (REA) and the Association for Organics Recycling in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI).

The BCS is administered by the REA.  More details can be found at www.biofertiliser.org.uk.
