Government Announce the Renewable Heat Incentive

DECCThe UK Government have announced the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The incentive is set to provide £860 million of incentives within the renewable heat sector, and in doing so reduce carbon emissions by a predicted 44 million tonnes.

The RHI will promote the use and installation of green heat technologies such as solar thermal heating systems and biomass boilers.

Biomethane injection and biogas combustion (except from landfill gas) will be eligible under the RHI. Biomethane of all scales and biogas combustion less than 200 kWth will receive 6.5 pence for every kWh of heat produced.

Those eligible technologies installed post 15th July 2009 will receive payments for the renewable heat they produce for the next 20 years.
