The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change have announced that the European Commission have given State Aid approval for new anaerobic digestion subsidies following the fast-track review of the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme.
The changes to the tariffs take immediate effect and will apply to installations with an eligibility date from 30 September 2011, which is the date on which the Commission made the decision.
The changes to the FiT scheme will mean new entrants will receive 14 pence per KWh of electricity generated for all anaerobic digestion installations under 250 kW in size and 13 pence per kWh for all installations between 250 and 500 kW. This represents an increase on the previous rates, where all plants up to 500 kW received 12.1 pence per kWh.
