AD portal report, December 2011

This is the third quarterly report on The Official Information Portal for Anaerobic Digestion, www.biogas-info.co.uk.

The biogas installations map has again been updated to include the latest plants that have become operational in the last three months. There are now 72 AD plants in the UK generating renewable energy (Dec 2011), a six per cent increase since September. For the latest information on operational AD plants please visit www.biogas-info.co.uk/index.php/ad-map.html.

Finding the right suppliers of anaerobic digestion equipment can be a challenge, this is why the NNFCC has put together a new supplier and contacts directory. Launched in November the directory provides access to hundreds of verified suppliers of anaerobic digesters, components and supporting businesses. The list is divided into categories to help navigation:

• Plant control systems
• Plant component suppliers
• Tank suppliers
• AD plant technology providers
• Civils contractors
• CHP suppliers
• Digestate treatment
• Biogas upgrade and utilisation
• Finance
• Gov / Trade groups / Regulators

In November, we helped launch two Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) tenders to challenge the cost and efficiency of AD technology. The first project focusses on optimising all scales of AD to make the process better, quicker and cheaper, resulting in more profitable businesses. The second challenges the cost and investigate technology options for small scale and rural AD and associated pre and post-processing plant. The closing date for applications to both projects is 12.00 noon on 21st December.
